Is Home Where My Heart Is? 2003-2009

In ‘Is Home Where My Heart Is?’ I wanted to capture something fixed in time, remember exactly how it was, aware of the frailty of memory, that shifts and changes the things we remember. The work is also about identity, being able to trace the lineage of moments that become cornerstones to understanding the past. Using my family as subject matter was like looking in a mirror. The work took a long time to produce and still isn’t quite complete as I add and subtract from the series. It is important that the images preserve my memories in a dignified way. Around the same time I also made a conscious decision to step away from exhibiting to explore the more personal aspects of this work, to understand the changes that were happening around me and to redefine my practice and the intention behind the work.
