Ireland - My - Island
Island My Ireland, 2010 – present day: is work in progress that explores the concept of symbolic or imaginary environments to hold the longing for home. The construct of stillness and motion in the work explores the complexities of static or frozen memory and the changing imagined memory or the expanding notion and illusion of home for diasporic communities. Home whether remembered, real or imagined becomes the idealistic and thereby unreachable goal of unfulfilled longing: the lost womb, the perfect mother’s breast or the safety of parents’ arms, the collective myth of homeland.
